Element 2: Water Quality Monitoring & Modelling

Results from Creek to Coral’s community based water quality monitoring program along with event water quality monitoring undertaken by the Australian Centre for Tropical Freshwater Research (ACTFR) were used as input to inform the WQIP. Some of the main water quality monitoring and modelling activities associated with the WQIP included:
- Development of an integrated water quality monitoring and modelling strategy (IWQMMS) as part of the WQIP;
- Strategic event monitoring in 2006/07 and 2007/08 ‘wet seasons’ to inform components of the WQIP;
- Modelling to establish pollutant loading using 2006/07 and 2007/08 event monitoring results;
- Identification of the costs and denefits of Water Sensitive Urban Design for water quality improvement;
- Collation of water quality monitoring data and subsequent preparation of a water quality condition report;
- Monitoring/modelling of existing gross pollutant trap (GPT) wetland structures to ascertain efficiency and effectiveness;
- Establishment of a report card format to measure water quality and catchment condition.
Final Products:
- An Integrated Water Quality Monitoring Programme for the Black and Ross River Basins
- Water Quality Condition Assessment Report
- Water quality report card format
- Riparian condition assessment report
